Black history is not just a moment in the calendar — it’s an ongoing conversation. We deliver engaging, well-facilitated workshops and talks throughout the year, supporting organisations that want to meet their equality, diversity and inclusion commitments in a meaningful, practical way.

Every project starts with an initial conversation. This helps us understand your organisation, your people, and what you’re aiming to achieve, so we can design a bespoke session that genuinely connects with your audience. We regularly work with groups of 10 to 150 participants, delivering sessions online or in person.

Supporting your diversity and inclusion goals

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is now a key focus for many organisations — not only to ensure colleagues from minority backgrounds are treated fairly, but also to build stronger teams and more confident relationships with global clients.

At The Flame Tree Collective, we know that DEI can sometimes feel challenging or uncomfortable to talk about. Our workshops create a thoughtful, supportive space where people can learn, ask questions, and build confidence without fear of getting it wrong.

A popular option is a “Lunch & Learn” webinar, which fits easily into the working day, though we also run in-person sessions when that works better for your team.

What you will take away

Our sessions are designed to:

  • Build understanding of key moments and themes in African and Black history

  • Create a safe, guided space for curiosity and conversation

  • Encourage appreciation for cultural diversity and different perspectives

  • Show how Black History has shaped the modern world, including the business and professional landscape

The approach is informative, engaging, and inclusive — focused on learning and reflection rather than blame or judgement.

Flexible delivery

While many of our clients are corporate organisations, we also deliver these workshops in non-corporate settings, including education, public sector organisations, and community spaces.

If you’re looking to go beyond tick-box DEI activity and offer something that feels authentic, engaging, and genuinely useful, we’d love to talk about how a tailored workshop could support your team.

What to Expect

Our workshops are delivered virtually or in-person and can be adapted to your needs and audience.

An initial consultation ensures we understand your requirements and can tailor an engaging & bespoke session for your audience. We have worked with groups from 10 to 150 participants. A typical workshop runs for 1 hour and involves a speaker-led presentation followed by an interactive discussion or activity.

Choose from our list of previous workshops or get in touch to create your own. Price available on request.

Black Hair & The Workplace

We worked with an ethnic and equalities group within an organisation to discuss black hair in the workplace. This workshop helped colleagues of African and non-African descent understand the history, taboos and care around black hair. We explored the significance of traditional hairstyles, the role hair played in expression and resistance during the Trans-Atlantic slavery era and the connections to today. By increasing the cultural awareness in the workplace, we were able to support better collaboration between teams and helped colleagues feel included at work.

Being Black & British

A company with offices in the UK, USA and Europe approached us to help their local and international colleagues understand the black presence in the UK. We explored black migration to Britain through the ages (from 10,000 years ago!) and the contributions of African and Caribbean people to British society and culture. Through the workshop, colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic could see similarities in their history. By understanding how unconscious bias may slip into the workplace, colleagues felt better represented which will improve engagement and productivity.

I didn't realise Africans had always been a part of British History, not just since the Slave trade. Just goes to show how multi-cultural our nation really is!
